Bill David

In his 25+ years in the homebuilding business, Bill David has seen many changes. Now, he combines the old-fashioned, tried and true methods with newer and better products in his homes.

“We’ve got a lot of better products on the market than we had when I first started building homes. We’re seeing new materials that last longer, cost less to maintain and hold up better than the traditional materials did,” said David, a partner in Black and David Homes with his brothers-in-law, Wendell Black and Buddy Black.

“One of the biggest changes is the use of engineered lumber. The engineers design it and they come back and inspect the installation. This ensures that the house is going to be built the right way and hold up for a long time,” he explained. “The engineered lumber takes a heavier load than traditional board lumber which allows for more open space in a home.”

Another new product that David uses in his homes is concrete siding, which resembles clapboard siding but requires less maintenance than wood. His homes have heavy plastic coated window sills, eliminating the problem of having to replace the sills because of wear, tear and weather.

David builds homes with today’s buyers in mind, adding 21st century features such as high-tech wiring. “So many people are working at home that we are building space for home offices and wiring them for computer terminals and other business machines.”

Because of demand by homebuyers, David has eliminated the two-story family room in many of his floor plans in recent years. Instead, he raised the ceiling in the family room to 10 feet, raising the roof by a couple feet and putting flexible spaces upstairs. People use them for an upstairs family room, a bedroom, media room or playroom for the children.

David builds a variety of two-story and ranch plans, many of them with basements.
